Obituary notice of Scott W. Miller states he enlisted in the Army on Aug. 23, 1943 and was killed in action in Normandy, France on July 24, 1944, at the age of 26. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Orva Anderson Miller; two sisters, Mrs. May Roberts of Spencer and Mrs. Clissie Uselton of Memphis, TN, and three brothers, Herman Miller of Reedy and Clayton and Gordon Miller, of Spencer.

Headline: Ship Carrying 9 War Dead of Area Arrives:
"Bodies of nine servicemen from Parkerburg and vicinity arrived in New York City yesterday afternoon aboard the U.S. Army transport Eric G. Gibson. Transport was carrying the bodies of 1,753 war dead, most of whom died in establishing the Normandy beachhead...The war dead aboard the Gilbson were transported to the U.S. from two World War II military cemeteries, St. Laurent-sur-Mer and La Cambe, near Omaha Beach... those from the Parkersburg area brought back for burial are... Pfc. Scott W. Miller, next-of-kin Mrs. Orva V. Miller, Route 1, Spencer..."
