Kirby Smith Sparks July 18, 2015 Mr. Kirby Smith Sparks, 86, of Nacogdoches, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2015, while surrounded by loved ones. Kirby was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, on March 27, 1929, to Clark and Vergie Sparks. He had two sisters and one brother. He married his love, Edith Laverne Sparks, in January 1949. Together they had four sons and one daughter. Kirby worked as a dedicated Ford mechanic. He loved classic cars and he never met an old Ford that he couldn't rebuild. He took care of cattle and tended his garden. He always had a lot of vegetables and shared with everyone he knew. In October of 2000, he lost his beloved wife and grieved her death immensely. He went to visit her gravesite weekly, rain or shine. Kirby was a loving man and had a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Sparks; and son, Kenneth Sparks. He is survived by his sons, Larry Sparks, Roy Sparks and Lloyd Sparks; daughter, Patricia Creekmore; grandchildren, Marcus Kirby Sparks, Matthew Machann, Eric Sparks, Adam Sparks, Lucas Machann, Brandon Sparks, Patti Torres and Clayton Sparks; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, and funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 24, at Cason Monk-Metcalf's Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North St., Nacogdoches, Texas, with the Rev. LaMerle Mantooth officiating. Interment will follow at the Lower Melrose Cemetery, located off State Highway 21 in Melrose, Texas.
