Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Claude Edward Cotten, and her two sons, Lewis Dean Cotten and Donald Carroll Cotten.
Leona was born November 30, 1907 in Silsby, Texas, to Onie and Cullen McCarstle.
She moved to Pauls Valley with her family in 1922. Here she attended Pauls Valley High School where she was involved in the Glee Club, was a Pantherette and an editor of the Valley High Times. She graduated in 1926.
During her many years in Pauls Valley, she took an active interest in many civic and community affairs. Leona helped found the Pauls Valley library and the Valley Christian Church.
Leona was an accomplished journalist who was a beat reporter for the Oklahoma City Times and the Pauls Valley Daily Democrat covering news events in Garvin County. She was also a scribe for the Pauls Valley Rotary Club.
Leona is survived by her son, E. Ray Cotten of Dallas, Texas; and her daughter-in-law, Darlene Cotten Ledbetter of Donna, Texas. She had seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Leona's long-time caregivers: Barbara Whatley, Vergie Courtney, Brenda Petty, Robin Gibson, Cissy Adkins and Ann Margaret Fogel.
