Barbara Bordenkircher died at the age of 52 in the line of duty. She was a Captain with the Barlow City Fire Department for two years and a Lieutenant with the Wickliffe Rural Fire Department. She was driving a Fire Truck, responding to a Wildland Fire in Ballard County. The fire had started when a tire came off a boat trailer as it was towing a boat. The sparks ignited a nearby brush fire. Firefighter Bordenkircher left the roadway, she tried to correct the truck and lost control of the vehicle. She and another Firefighter was injured badly, when the Truck crashed into a tree. She was ejected from the truck, the other firefighter was severely injured. She was survived by her husband James Bordenkircher, also a Firefighter.
