TWO RIVERS - Antoine Gauthier, 92, widely known retired keeper of the lighthouses of Twin River Point habor and Two Rivers harbor and the last surviving member of one of the first families to settle here, died early Friday morning at the Odd Fellows Home at Green Bay, where he had been a resident for the past two years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Klein & Stangel, Inc. Funeral Home, Two Rivers, the Rev. M.J. Roehrdanz officiating. Interment will be in Fort (sic) View Cemetery here.
Antoine Gauthier was born in Two Rivers on April 2, 1863, a son of the late Louis and Etta Belrose Gauthier who immigrated from Quebec more than a century ago. He married Mary LaFleur 70 years ago in Two Rivers. She died in 1942.
When just a boy Antoine Gauthier was employed in the tannery of the old Wisconsin Leather co. two miles north of the city, and when he was 18 he entered the United States Lighthouse Service. He served as keeper of both the local harbor and Twin River Point lights until 1917 when he was retired after 36 years of service. For several years later he was an employe of the Hamilton Mfg. Co. here.
His only immediate survivor is a daughter, Mrs. Stella ???eland of San Francisco,Calif. There are also six grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mr. Gauthier was a charter member of the Two Rivers Lodge No. 66, I.O.O.F., and was among those honored when the lodge held its 50th anniversary two years ago.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
