George E. Kmetz, of Harmony, formerly of Rochester, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Evergreen Nursing Center, Harmony. Born May 29 in Sutersville, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Blasko) Kmetz and was known for saying that on May 29, he celebrated the 48th anniversary of his 39th birthday. Mr. Kmetz was a surveyor for Chester Engineers in Pittsburgh and retired from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. He was a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Club and a former member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Rochester. Mr. Kmetz worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 10 years. He is survived by a sister, Helen Shaw of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther (Wallace) Kmetz, who died in November 1993; three brothers, John E., Joseph and Thomas Kmetz; and three sisters, Mary Hesse, Ann Lofgren and Margaret Gorse. Friends received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SVCS. INC., 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, with the Rev. Robert M. Miller, pastor, officiating. Interment in St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, PA 16063; or Preferred Choice Hospice, 1500 Ardmore Blvd., Suite 501, Pittsburgh, PA 15221.
