Westminster's oldest and most highly
respected citizens, died on Saturday,
February 26, 1939, at 9 P. M., at her
home, 64 West Main street, at the advanced
age of 95 years, eight months
and twenty-nine days from infirmities.
Mrs. Cover was born May 26th,
1843 and was the daughter of the late
William and Elizabeth Bixler Bachman
of Bachman's Valley. Besides a
sister, Mrs. Ida L. Schaeffer, this city,
she leaves two grandchildren, Mrs. J.
Norman Folk of Williston, S. C, and
Howard F. Schaeffer, Jr., of Vallejo,
Calif.; also three great-grandchildren;
two step-children, John T. Cover
of Washington, D. C, and Mrs.
Frances Basehoar of Gettysburg, Pa.
Mrs. Cover was twice married. In
1867 she was married to A. D. Schaeffer
of Carroll County, from this union
one son was born, Howard F.
Schaeffer, Sr., now deceased. Her
second marriage occurred in 1881, to
Samuel Cover, also of Carroll County,
who preceded her in death' 37 years
ago.
Mrs. Cover was a devoted member
of Grace Lutheran Church of this city
from its very beginning and its last
charter member. She being one of
22 members who effected that organisation
in 1867. All her long life she
has been intensely interested in the
growth and success of the congregation.
Her funeral was held from the late
home, Wednesday, at 2:30 P. M., with
burial in Krider's cemetery. The Revs.
Paul W. Quay, and J. Hess Belt officiated
at the services.
The pallbearers were: Norman B.
Boyle, Joseph L. Mathias, Sr.. Carroll
E. Myers, Clarence Bachman, John
H. Cunningham and Robert Cover.
