DR. R.B. McALPIN DIES; RITES WILL BE AT GREENWOOD

GREENWOOD, March 20 -- Funeral services have been set for 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Wilson chapel for Dr. Robert Boyd McAlpin, a prominent physician and resident of Greenwood.

Services are to be in charge of the Rev. Robert Marlett, pastor of the Greenwood Baptist Church, and Dr. McAlpin will be buried in the Greenwood Cemetery with Masonic services.

Mrs. Thelma Springer Mayer will be the vocalist and she will be accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Calvin Black.

Friends may call at the funeral home any time and are invited to attend the rites.

Death came to Dr. McAlpin Monday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Spencer, in Morocco after an illness of several years.

Dr. McAlpin was the last surviving member of the family of Robert and Eliza Jane McAlpin and was born in Greenwood on April 29, 1869. He was educated in the Greenwood schools.

He attended Franklin College where he graduated with the Class of 1898 and then attended the old Indiana Medical College, graduating from there in 1902. Dr. McAlpin began his practice at Nineveh that year and in 1909, he returned to Greenwood where he continued his practice until his retirement five years ago.

A man of Christian character, Dr. McAlpin's philosophy was "practice the presence of God at all times." He not only lived this in his every-day life, but as a physician had practiced it in his chosen profession.

Dr. McAlpin had been a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church for 73 years, the longest of any member of his church, and for many years had served as a deacon. He was a deacon emeritus at the time of his death. For many years he had been a member of the Greenwood Masonic lodge.

In 1911, Dr. McAlpin was married to Bertha Terman and they were the parents of two children, one of whom died when about four years of age.

The widow survives with the daughter, Mrs. Spencer.
