Mable M. Williams, known to her family as grandma, 104, formerly of Ottawa, passed away on July 23, 2015 in Olympia, Washington.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Epworth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carolyn Lukasick, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Mable was born on September 8, 1910, in Utica, to George and Sadie (Lyles) Lewis. Mable married was married to Elmer Williams. She and Elmer were members of Epworth United Methodist Church, and were instrumental in moving the church from Catherine Street to Damen’s asparagus patch on Gentleman Road. She was a long time resident of Ottawa, until 1997 when she moved to Olympia, WA to live with her son Ron and his wife Margaret “Peggy.” Mable was a lifetime time supporter of the Ottawa Pirates, and along with her friend, Margaret Riley, was a supporter of the IVCC basketball team, travelling to all home and away games. Both ladies were in their mid 70’s at the time of their travels.

In her younger years, Mable worked at the Peltrie Marble Factory where she was a marble inspector. Later, she became one of the painters at Radium Dial. Mable was very lucky to have no complications from working with the radium paint. She attributed that to the fact that she never “tipped” her paint brush with her lips. She always said that she didn’t think that was a good idea. Elmer often said that at night he would see specks glowing in her hair, and she would get up and wash it out. For many years she made an annual trip to Chicago to the Argonne National Laboratory to be scanned, but in the late 70’s she was discharged from the program.

For many years Mable and Elmer took their two sons to Hayward, WI the last two weeks in August to fish on the Chippewa Flowage. Mable was a Cubs fan mainly because Elmer was such a die-hard Cubs fan, but what she really liked was basketball, especially Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

During her last years, Mable remained happy and a joy to be around. She always had a smile for everyone, and would brighten up the room. Even though she had difficulty with memory of recent events, she remembered her friends, family, and events of the past. She will always be remembered by many as a happy, fiery redhead, who was caring and sensitive to others, and lived life to the fullest.

She is survived by her son Ronald (Margaret) Williams, of Olympia, WA, 6 grandchildren, Eric, Amy, Sally, Ronald Kurt, Molly, and Emily, 8 great-grandchildren, Eric Williams, Jr., Jennifer Close, Ryan, Matthew, and Hailey Baker, and Mikayla, Marisa, and David Williams, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, Eibhlin Eder, Haden, and Logan Williams. She was the quintessential grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer in 1981, her son Richard, in 2003, a brother Elmer Lewis, and a sister Edna Ruyle.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
