VELEARIE MABLE STEPHENS, 86, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2006, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born March 14, 1920, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Paul and Lucy Ellen Lore Collier.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Stephens; six children and a daughter-in-law, Denver and Betty Stephens, Edna, Edison, Carl Franklin, James Mitchell and Ishmael Ray; and six brothers and sisters, Hubert Collier, Florence Newman, Gladys Bragg, John Collier, Rebecca Collier and Ruby Collier.

She was was a loving mother, a homemaker and attended many churches. She is survived by her children, Dallas and Betty Stephens of Sandy Hook, Dora and Willie Turner of Sandy Hook, William and Isobell Stephens of Frankfort, Opal Howard of Sandy Hook, Curtis Dewayne and Kathryn Stephens of West Liberty, Ronnie and Kathy Stephens, Jim Stephens and Linda Skaggs, all of Sandy Hook; 26 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home with brother Warren Vanover and brother Reggie Dickerson officiating. Burial in Elliott County Memory Gardens.
