Rudolph August Grundmann, was born on Dec. 12, 1888 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin to Oscar and Minnie May ( Kunz ) Grundmann. Rudolph ( Rudy ) came to South Dakota in 1907 settling in Hitchcock, Spink Co., South Dakota. There he met and fell in love with a young women by the name of Elfrida Pauline Karlsen from Tromso, Norway. On January 26, 1916 Rudolph and Elfrida were married in Frankfort, Spink Co., South Dakota. To this union four children were born: Helen, Mabel, Clara, and Ralph. Rudy and his family farmed in different area's around Hitchcock, Spink Co., South Dakota. In 1953 because of deteriorating health, Rudy and Elfrida moved into Hitchcock, Beadle Co., South Dakota ( the highway divides the town between Spink and Beadle Counties ). Seven years later, he passed away on August 12, 1960 at the Huron Hospital, Huron, Beadle Co., South Dakota. Arrangements were done at the Welter Funeral Home, Huron, Beadle Co., South Dakota and services were held at the Hitchcock Methodist Church in Hitchcock, Beadle Co., South Dakota on August 16, 1960 and burial was at the Altoona Cemetery outside of Hitchcock, Beadle Co., South Dakota. Section 4, Block 5, Lot 4, Grave 1 East. The following information was recorded at the Huron Courthouse, Beadle Co., South Dakota: Death Certificate # 10501, Book 6, Page 4 and Burial Permit # 3478, Book 4, Page 80.
