Rosa Gummel Burgin COLUMBIA - Rosa Gummel Burgin, 83, passed away Thursday June 18, 2015. She was born in Bernburg an der Saale, Germany. Rosa became a naturalized U.S. citizen in the 1950s. She served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1967. Rosa was a waitress for many years following her military career. She was also a member of The Church of Latter-day Saints in the Windsor Lake ward. Rosa was well loved by all. Her warm and welcoming smile, positive attitude and constant perseverance will always be remembered. Rosa was the wife of the late Robert William Burgin, and daughter of the late Ernst Wilhelm Gummel and the late Margaret Else Helene Gummel. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Ernst Gummel and Paul Gummel. Rosa is survived by her daughter, Ute Patricia Holcomb of Elgin, SC; two granddaughters, Brittany Ute Holcomb of Elgin, SC, and Stephanie Rose Hibdon (Gary) of Columbia, SC; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Guenter Gummel, Helmut Gummel, Reinholt Gummel, Alfred Gummel and Siegfried Gummel. There will be a memorial service Sunday, July 12, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Northeast Wesleyan Church, 192 Sloan Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
