William was born in Gaston the son of the late Everett and Premma (Davis) Armstrong. He married Wanda (Barnett) in Fairmount on July 3, 1953. They made their home in Matthews since 1954. Mr. Armstrong retired in 1991 from the Marion General Motors plant, formerly CPC, after 38 years as a tool maker. He was a member of the Matthews Covered Bridge Historical Society and the CPC Sympathy Club.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Wanda; a daughter, Debra (Max) Kreigh, Hartford City; two sons, Dennis (Nancy), Paragon, Doug (Tammie), Matthews; a brother George, Gaston; a sister, Thelma Chapman, Columbia City; and five grandchildren, Lacy, Ryan, Eric, Michael, Jarrod.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elzie, Gerald; and sisters, Alma Needler, Barbara Jean Armstrong, and Arnetta Falkenstein.
