Funeral services Elder Ben Thomas held Monday
Elder Ben F. Thomas, 83 died Saturday morning in Pierce County Hospital following an illness of several days.
A native of Wayne County, he had lived in Pierce County a number of years. A son of the late Elder Ephraim Thomas and Missouri John Thomas, he had engaged in farming until his retirement. An elder of the Primitive Baptist Church for many years, he was moderator of the St. Mary's River Association which include Mill Creek, Laodicia, Pigeon Creek, Mount Zion, and Macedonia Primitive Baptist Churches. He was able to serve all of these churches until his last illness.
Survivors: His widow, Mrs. Gloria Johnson Thomas, four daughters, Mrs. Modell Brantley, and Mrs. Bonnie Sweat, both of Waycross, Ga., Mrs. Hazel Walker and Miss Delilah Thomas, both of Blackshear, Ga., three sons, J.E. Thomas , and Arvie Lee Thomas, Both of Blackshear and Richard Arlene, Waycross, Ga., a sister Mrs. Lilly Flowers, of Blackshear; 35 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, a number of other relatives.
Services for Elder Thomas were held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church near Patterson Ga. Burial was in Mill Creek Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the churches in the St. Mary's River Association.
