Obituary: Leona Kathryn Wilson McCarty, age 94, of Benton, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at her home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with Rev. Kurt Sanders officiating. There will be no visitation, family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Arrangements are with the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton. Kathryn was born on April 30, 1920 in Hurst, IL, the daughter of Hosea A. Wilson and Eula (Russell) Wilson. She married Michael E. McCarty on August 28, 1937, and he preceded her in death on February 4, 1991. Mrs. McCarty worked as a bookkeeper with her husband's Phillips 66 business. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Benton, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her daughter Judy Anderson and husband Craig of Dunnellon, FL; a granddaughter Jill Anderson of Pennsylvania; a grandson Mike Anderson of Pennsylvania; three great-grandchildren: Isabella, Carly, and Jacob. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister: Louise Wilson McCluskey; an infant brother William Wilson. Kathryn was proud to claim she came from a distinguished military family. Her grandfather Allen Wilson served with the 31st Illinois Infantry in the Civil War, and having four brothers also preceding her in death due to serving their country in military service. They include: Brigadier General Russell Wilson (who died in a bombing raid over Berlin); Colonel Jack Wilson (who died in the South Pacific); Captain Ronald Wilson (whose ship was sunk off of Okinawa by a kamikaze pilot, he was severely injured, but survived); Air Cadet Lowell Wilson (who died in a flight training accident in Texas). In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National World War II Museum, 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA, 70130.
