He is a Metis as his mother was a full-blooded Indian of the Mesquakie tribe also known as the Fox tribe. The term Metis is a French term that refers to a person of half-breed, mongrel, cross-bred, mestizo or metif blood. It is a Latin term which means mixed blood. The Metis were known for friendliness and politeness. They had a simple faith and childlike objectivity.

He married Elizabeth Brown Dec. 11, 1796 in Saint-Francois-Du-Lac, Nicolet-Yamaska Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada.

Elizabeth was born between 1742 and 1796. Nothing else is known of her.

4-Louise Henriette christened March 31, 1813 St Francois-du-Lac and died 1858. She married Aleis Joly Nov. 8, 1836 at St Elizabeth son of Joseph Joly and Felicite Latour.

5-Jule Adelaide christened Nov. 1, 1816 St Francois-du-Lac.

6-Louis Theophile born Dec 13, 1816 and christened Dec. 13, 1876 St Francois-du-Lac.

7-Charles Frederick born Aug. 2, 1820in St Francois du lac, Quebec, Canada and died abt 1878in New London, CT. He was christened Aug 1820 at St Francois du Lac, Quebec, Canada. He married Catherine Enright who was born about 1820 in Ireland and died June 12, 1899 in CT (New London Colony).
