Despite the inscribed year of Grace's birth (1739), she was born on Jan. 28, 1739 in the old Julian calendar written as Jan. 28, 1734/40 in the modern Gregorian calendar. She was bapt. of record at the Middletown, CT First Cong. Church on Feb. 10, 1739/40. The 1879 pub. Starr Family genealogy also correctly references the date of Grace's birth as Jan. 28, 1739/40.

Frank Farnsworth Starr was the longtime town clerk of Middletown, Conn. and recognized in his day as a well-known private and published genealogist. Although his name is not mentioned as a contributor of the Starr Genealogy, he undoubtedly had a significant hand in the genealogy and records of the Middletown branch of the family.

Ironically, Grace's stepmother, her father's 2nd wife, was Sarah (nee Goodrich)(Lord)(Ward) Starr, dau. of Col. David Goodrich of Wethersfield, Conn., latter the son of my Wethersfield ancestors.

As you probably know, as the gov't agent of the Cherokee in southeast Tennessee, Grace's husband, Col. Return J. Meigs, either hired or was responsible for the continued presence of John Hildebrand as the designated miller of the Cherokee. John Hildebrand, through his 1st wife Anna Barbara Ecker as well as by 2nd wife Susanna Womancatcher, was the progenitor of the Cherokee mixed-blood Hildebrand families, including their descendant, my eldest child. Thus, Col. Meigs is somewhat of a hero of mine.
