There is conflicting information of the death of Joseph. It is stated by his son Thomas that his father died in 1824. He also states that he was brought to Bartholomew County, Indiana when he was one year of age that being the year 1825.
Fact remains Joseph's widow Mary and her children settled in the New Indiana Territory. In 1842 Mary and her family migrated to an unformed county later named Tipton created on May 1, 1844. In the year 1846 they moved to Russiaville, Howard, Indiana. Mary is buried in Randolph Cemetery Kokomo, Howard, Indiana.
