Evelyn Ruth "Ruthie" Risk Chancellor, 65, of Madison, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

She was born March 13, 1941, on Hick's Ridge at Canaan, the daughter of Frank D. Risk and Dorothy L. Rankin Risk Ashby.

She was a 1959 graduate of Madison High School and a graduate of the Minneapolis Art Institute with an associate of arts degree.

She worked 10 years at Lydia Middleton Elementary School in Madison as a LD teacher and was later a substitute teacher in the Southwestern School Corp. She later retired from Clifty Inn as sales director after 14 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madison and was a past deaconess, Sunday school teacher and member of the women's missionary circle. She enjoyed helping with and participating in church plays.

She loved art, collecting angels, reading, cooking and demonstrating the art of her cooking. She lived in Florida for 10 years before moving back to Madison in 1978.

Survivors include: her husband, Bill E. Chancellor of Madison; five daughters, Carolyn Reese and Jenny Donhardt, both of Indianapolis, Cathy Devore of Texas, Rosa Abair of Land O Lakes, Fla., and Clarissa Geisler of Madison; three sons, Andrew of Madison, Joseph of Marathon, Fla., and Paul of Gilcrest County, Fla; one sister, Laura Jean Risk of Madison; one sister-in-law, Shirl Cooper of Greenville, S.C.; one brother-in-law, Woodrow Bell of Madison; 13 half-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Chancellor; three sisters, Mary Lou Bell, Golden Harmon and Nell Nelson; her step-father, William "Bill" Ashby; and her step-brother, Henry Mitchell.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday.
