George R. "Bud" Adams, age 86, of Cedar Lake, passed away November 5, 2005. Preceded in death by his parents: William and Johanna (Gudgeon) Adams; two brothers: William Adams Jr. and Stoddard Adams; two sisters: Lydia Mae Krause and Josephine Ritchie. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Margaret (nee Nolan); dear father of Georgia (Rick) Sharpe, Claudia (Paul) Carlson, Terry (Sue) Adams, Tom (Cindi) Adams; grandfather of Lori (David) Martens, Jason (Stacey) Mentink, Jen Valtierra (Dave Zamora), Benjamin Nolan Mentink, Stephanie and Nicholas Adams, Rachel Adams, Bryan (Adrienne) Sharpe, Julie (Jeff) Kaster; great-grandfather to Adam, Jason John, Nolan, Andrew, Caitlyn and Jenna. George and his family moved from Chicago to Cedar Lake in 1964. He quickly became involved in the continued development of Cedar Lake and held various positions related to the governance of the town. George formed the Cedar Lake Democratic Precinct Organization where he held the position of Chairman until 2003. He has held various positions on the Cedar Lake Town Council and has served as President of the Town Council. George retired from Amforge where he worked for 30 years. He was an active union representative and was instrumental in establishing a retirement/pension plan for the Amforge retirees. Upon his retirement from Amforge, he worked for many years selling automobiles (Peterman/Circle Olds) and received several awards for record sales. He was also employed at the Lake County Assessor's office until his retirement at the age of 85. George had many close friends throughout his long life and enjoyed meeting with them for his morning breakfast to discuss the various town and county political issues. He was a veteran of World War II, having served three years in the Air Force 5th Division Sky Lancers as a Sergeant. He was a member of Holy Name Church, American Legion, Cedar Lake Yacht Club and Knights of Columbus. His personal interests included sailing, photography and automobiles. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Friends may call at Burdan Funeral Home, Cedar Lake on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held DIRECTLY at Holy Name Church, Cedar Lake on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 with an 11:00 a.m. Mass with Father Edward Kennedy and Father James O'Connor officiating.
