Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23rd at the Spring Branch Presbyterian Church with interment in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery of Houston.
He was a native of Honey Grove and a son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Black, Sr.
He attended the Honey Grove public school and he was a member of the graduating class of 1932 of Honey Grove High School. He attended East Texas State University in Commerce graduating in 1936.
Following his graduation from East Texas State University, he worked for Austin Steel Company of Dallas and Houston and continued with the company until his death, except for his military service during WWII.
He married Miss Norma Fuller of Providence, R. I. in 1946. She passed away in 1970.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was assigned to the Sea Bees. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was in the assault and conquest of Okinawa prior to his discharge in December of 1945.
He was originally a member of the Main Street Presbyterian Church in Honey Grove, but at the time of his death he was a member of the Spring Branch Presbyterian Church of Houston.
He is survived by three brothers, O. K. Black of Ft. Worth, M. G. Black of Cuero and John B. Black of Honey Grove and one niece, Mrs. Ann Masterson of Houston; three nephews, John M. Black of Amarillo, Bob Black of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Walcott G. Black of Sherman.
