He retired from the Railroad after 28 years of service as a welder. His first occupation and passion was Race car driving. He also raced Demolition Derby cars and owned and raced Top Fuel Dragster cars. J.D. was also an Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway Pit Crew Chief. He ran Impress Images where he produced the church bulletins for Emerson Avenue Baptist Church where he was a member and served as Trustee along with various other roles. J.D. then became a member of Cumberland First Baptist Church where he headed the ministry of church bulletin printing and any other printing needs. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved tinkering with cars and computers.
In addition to his parents, J.D. is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his grandson, J.J. Ingalls, and his brother, Carl Lewis Ingalls.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Dottie Ingalls Rau, J.D. Ingalls, Jr. and Shellie Ingalls Klinge, sister, Lou Ann Roemer and Fred Choss. He is also survived by grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, niece Heather and nephews, Darryl and Elijah Atkins.
