Born in Yonkers, New York, on October 3, 1936, her family moved to the area in 1950 and she graduated from Titusville High School in 1954.
Continuing her education while working at the Kennedy Space Center, she obtained her master’s degree from the University of Central Florida. She was the first women president of the management club. Before retiring in 1994 as a project engineer, she was awarded the NASA Silver Snoopy Award for an exceptional job on the space shuttle program.
A lifelong member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, she was a loving wife and mother of five who valued family and friends. She enjoyed many hobbies (sewing, quilting, crocheting, ceramics, stained glass work) and was an exceptional pianist.
She is predeceased by her parents, Marguerite Dearborn and Emil J. Green; sister, Anne Green Exline; and her twin brother, Emil J. (Jack) Green Jr.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Matthew J. Amato Sr., and their children: Stephen Amato Sr., Marie Amato Godfrey, Mark J. Amato (Denise), Marguerite (Peggy) Amato Ritchie, and Matthew Amato Jr.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Titusville, Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 10:30 am. Family and friends will gather at the Amato residence immediately following the service.
