Cherry Valley Correspondence.

Sabbath, the 13th inst., the funeral of Mr. Emory chamberlain, a much respected christian [Christian} gentleman, and father of Mrs. Dr. Van Buren of this place, was held in the Free Will Baptist Church. The sermon was preached by Rev. A. H. Schoonmaker, pastor of the M. E. Church, assisted in the other services by Rev. Mr. Cross, pastor of the Baptist Church. The church was filled with a deeply sympathizing audience. Mr. Chamberlain was much beloved by all who knew him, and had been a worthy member of the Congregational Church for half a century. He found the promised, "rod and staff" a support while walking "through the valley of the shadow of death." He was 85 years old the 28th of last December. His remains were buried at Beloit, near his former residence. His end was peace. (Rockford Journal [Rockford, Illinois] Saturday, February 26, 1876, Page 5.) Accessed and transcribed 9 July 2017 by Mary Jo.)
