Patricia Lee Brown Maxwell R.N., 84, of Bridgeton died peacefully at her home on Wednesday evening April 23, 2014 following a lengthy illness.

The wife of former Bridgeton Mayor E. Morgan “Bud” Maxwell Jr., she was born in Broadway, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Valley Virginia (nee Miller) Brown. A resident of Bridgeton since 1954, she and her husband of 63 years lived in the same Bridgeton home since 1964.

Mrs. Maxwell was a graduate of Broadway High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Virginia. Her career as a nurse included work in the University of Virginia teaching hospital, the former Bridgeton Hospital, The Cumberland Manor, and as a private nurse to the late Charles F. Seabrook. She later attended Glassboro State College (Rowan) where she received her certification as a school nurse, and for more than 25 year she served as the school nurse in several Bridgeton Elementary Schools.

A member of the former Holly Hills Golf Club, she was a devoted golfer and considered golfing her “main obsession.” During her many years of playing, she was fortunate to have scored three holes-in-one; two of those having been on the same hole in successive weeks. She enjoyed traveling, especially two trips to Scotland where she played the infamous Old Course at St. Andrews. She also played Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, and many courses great and small throughout America.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, E. Morgan Maxwell III and his wife Karen of Devon, PA, Robert R. Maxwell and his wife Colleen of Bridgeton, Stephen A. “Sam” Maxwell of Burke, VA and Joyce P. Maxwell and Benjamin D. Maxwell, both of Bridgeton, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, one brother, Ronald Brown of Berryville, VA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Jane MacAveny and a brother, Roy Brown.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Terrigno's Fairfield Inn (lower level), 153 Bridgeton-Fairton Road, Bridgeton on Saturday evening, May 10th at 7:00.

Cremation, inurnment and the burial of Mrs. Maxwell’s cremated remains took place privately at Laurel Lawn Crematory and Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service once plans are finalized.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
