Marion Lucille Block
Jan. 24, 1926 - July 31, 2015
Resident of Los Gatos

Marion Lucille Block passed away peacefully at her home in Los Gatos on Friday, July 31, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. She was 89 years old.

Marion was born in San Jose, California on January 24,1926 to parents Jack and Katherine Scarcella. She had no siblings but grew up close to her cousins and their families in San Jose. She attended and graduated from Notre Dame High School in San Jose and the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California. In 1947 she married Allen Block at St. Joseph's Cathedral in downtown San Jose. They raised their children in Los Gatos and together they ran Los Gatos Village Printers for most of their married lives. Their marriage of over 50 years set a loving, dedicated example for all who knew them. Marion was preceded in death by her husband Al in 2000.

Marion was the matriarch of her family and her fierce love kept her children and their families close to her. Her favorite phrase was, "We're a lucky family," and she will be remembered for her steady, intense adoration of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was proud that they remained close with one another and loved to delight in stories from their lives, often remarking, "Gee, that's great, honey."

Marion was a talented knitter who completed many children's blankets and hats for babies in intensive care. She was also a seasoned card player who won often with a twinkle in her eye and playful smile on her face. Marion was a dear friend to many.

Marion is survived by her children and their spouses: Jackie and Duino Giordano, Mark Block and Gretchen Werner, and Chris Block and Thomas Peña. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank the people who cared sweetly and diligently for Marion in her final years.

Friends and family are invited to a funeral service at 10:30am on Thursday, August 6 at St. Mary's Church in Los Gatos. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice VITAS.
