Born Emilia Yznaga. Emilie, as she preferred to be known, was the third daughter of Antonio Modesto Yznaga-del Valle, a wealthy Cuban immigrant, holding large estates on that island, with an established and successful Commission Merchant business in New York. Emilie's mother, Ellen Maria Clement was born in Louisiana. Her parents came from a well known and respected New England family that acquired a plantation in the Natchez area of Louisiana in the early 1800’s.

Miss Emilie Yznaga of the Hotel Madison, an aunt of the Duke of Manchester, died yesterday in St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. Before the war she had resided for forty years in Paris where she was known as an art connoisseur and a collector of paints. Born in New York, Miss Yznaga was the daughter of the late Antonio Yznaga del Valle and the former Ellen Clement. She was a sister of the late Duchess of Manchester, the late Lady Natica Lister-Kaye and Fernando Yznaga, a New York financier."

"Miss Emilie Yznaga, a resident of London and Paris for fifty years and an aunt of the present Duke of Manchester, died yesterday in St. Luke's Hospital, Amsterdam avenue and 113th street. She was 83 years old and lived at the Hotel Madison, 15 East 58th street. Miss Yznaga was born in New York but accompanied her sister Consuelo to England when the latter was married to Viscount Mandeville. She later moved to Paris but fled from the city on the approach of the Germans, and returned here in 1942. Her other sister, Natica, was married to Sir John Pepys Lister-Kaye.b She died in February, 1943. A funeral service for Miss Yznaga will be held Saturday in St Bartholomew's Chapel, Park avenue and 50th street. Her nephew, the Duke of Manchester, survives." New York, NY Sun, November 2, 1944.
