James Richard Owens age 73, of Gray, was born on February 18, 1938 at Owens Hollow in Knox County. He was a son of the late Jim Tom Owens and Sarah Gray Owens. Mr. Owens died Friday, October 21, 2011 in the Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mount Vernon, Kentucky. He was a member of the Callihan Baptist Church and was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator. On August 11, 1955, he united in marriage to Evelyn Baker and to this union three daughters were born. Along with his parents, Mr. Owens was preceded in death by; three brothers, Lewis, Larry and Raymond Owens and a son-in-law, Tony Cooke. Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Evelyn Owens of Gray; his daughters; Marcia Fisher and husband, Ronnie; Glenda Clouse and husband, Gus, all of Corbin; Sarah Cooke of Barbourville; his six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; his sisters; Beatrice Keys of Corbin; Betty Jones and husband, Ronnie and Sue Marler and husband, Doug, all of Gray; his brothers; Don Owens and wife Judy and Alvin Owens and wife, Maggie all of Gray; dear Aunt, Sallie Merida of Barbourville; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Bailey of Jacksonville, Florida and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services for James Richard Owens will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Mike Fuson officiating. Burial will follow in the Owens Family Cemetery at Gray, with nephews serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Joe Sheilds, Novell Bond, Calvin Eagle and Mr. Owens church family at the Callihan Baptist church. The Owens family would like to extend a special thank-you to the ICU Staff at the Oaktree Hospital and Staff at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Saturday after 6:00 p.m. and Sunday after 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 4:30 p.m. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
