Johnny G. Abernathy VALDESE Johnny G. "Buddy" Abernathy, Sr., 63, of Hildebran, passed away Wednesday Jan. 11, 2012, at Palliative Care-Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Abernathy was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Catawba County, to the late Glenn Harold and Clara Stillwell Abernathy. Buddy, as most knew him, worked in the trucking industry for many years, first with Western Carolina Freightliner and then with Commscope, Inc. For the past ten years he worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Charlotte and Hickory. Buddy was a friend to many, and he was certainly blessed with many great friends. He loved his family dearly and he adored his grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
