Dick attended the Worth Township and Port Matilda school system. He was inducted into the United States Army in early 1953, but was released from active duty later that year when the Korean Conflict armistice led to a rapid deactivation and reduction of U.S. forces. Dick then worked for 43 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad before retiring in 1997. During his retirement, Dick did a wonderful job of caring for his older sister, Marjorie.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman with a great passion for hunting and fishing, was a baseball and railroad historian, a big fan of the Altoona Curve, Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, loved family picnics at Black Moshannon, and watching his great nephew and nieces play baseball and softball.
Dick is survived by his brother, Robert (Nancy) Warner of Port Matilda; nephews Todd (Elaine) Warner of Howard, Jayson (Sanae) Warner of Peach Tree City, Georgia, Richard (Judy) Spotts of Bellwood, and Stanley Spotts of Bellwood; nieces Melissa (Karl) Stine of Port Matilda, Tamara (Garret) Housel of Port Matilda, Norma (Walter) Shoff of Bellwood, Marsha (John) Patton of Bellwood, and Lowella (John) Thoman of Manchester, Pennsylvania.
Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, with the funeral service with Pastor Todd Templeton immediately following. Dick will be laid to rest beside his parents in Grays Cemetery, Halfmoon Township, Centre County.
