DEATH OF MRS. J. W. HOUSTON
Was In Chicago Sept. 5 and Burial Was Here Thursday

Mrs. Joseph W. Houston, a former resident of Centerville, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1911, at her home, 4816 Madison Ave., aged 81 years, 5 months and 25 days. Death was due to troubles incident to old age. The body was brought to Centerville by the family, arriving Wednesday night, when it was taken to the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. C. W. Blachley, and the funeral was held Thursday at 3:30 at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. W. M. McCoy, pastor of the church. Burial was beside her husband on the Houston lot in Oakland cemetery.

The deceased was born in Edenburg, Penn., March 12, 1830. She was married in 1854 at Palestine, Ohio, to Joseph W. Houston, her maiden name being Sarah Saunders. In 1856 they came to Centerville and for many years made this their home. The husband died in 1891 after they had gone to Chicago. The surviving children are Mrs. C. A. Stanton, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. C. A. Turner, Crookston, Minn.; George T. Houston, Chicago; Mrs. F. J. Hardesty, Chicago; J. S. Houston, Chicago; Mrs. Jas. E. Stark, Memphis, Tenn.; Frank B. Houston, Chicago.

In her youth Mrs. Houston was a member of the United Presbyterian church, both she and Mr. Houston being energetic leaders in the church. Later she became a member of the Presbyterian church here, and lived ever a life of devotion to her profession and belief. The family made many friends. All the children were here for the funeral except Mrs. Stanton, of Los Angeles.
