ROBERT HENRY BROWN

Robert Henry Brown was born in a long cabin near Reed's Creek in Bates County, Missouri on June 10, 1893, and departed this life August 5, 1984 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler Mo. at the age of 91 years 1 month and 26 days. He was the last surviving member of a family of seven children.

Robert was the youngest child of John H. Brown and Carlotta Thompson Brown. He lived his entire life as a farmer in Bates County, Missouri on the farm his father bought and moved his family to in 1901. He spent 8 months in the Army in World War I at Camp Funston (or Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas) in the 7th Infantry Division.

On February 15, 1922 he was married to Isa Dee Cary and they had 45 years together. She died in 1967. To this union there was born 3 sons and 2 daughters. All three sons, Donald, Herbert, and Forrest preceded him in death, also preceding him in death were his father, mother, brothers, Perry, Millard, Leonard, Arthur, Vernon who died in infancy also a sister, Mina Eastland.

In March 1977 he was married to Mrs. Ellen Law. Ellen was killed in an auto accident August 27, 1977.

He sold the farm home in 1978 and moved to Butler.

He was one of the oldest living members of Bethel Baptist Church which his father attended before him, even before the Church moved to its present location.

He will be remembered as a hard working man of strong opinions and scrupulous honesty. Truly a pioneer from the old school.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Brown Bennett and husband Verne of San Jose, California and Mrs. Roberta Brown Dolinger and husband, William of Liberty Mo.; two granddaughters, Judy Bennett Chirco and Patricia Bennett McQuiston both of San Jose, Ca. and two grandsons, Casey W. Bennett of Corvallis, Oregon and Billy Joe Dolinger of Liberty, Mo. Three great grandchildren Deanne and Tracey McQuiston and Steven Chirco all of San Jose, Ca. Other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 7, 1984 at 2 o'clock p.m. from the Bethel Baptist Church, near Rich Hill, with Rev. Gaylen Bohrer officiating.

Mrs. Hazel Johnson, pianist, accompanied Mrs. Clara Lyons and Mrs. Melba Lee Lyons who sang "Life's Railway To Heaven" and "Goodnight and Good Morning."

Those serving as casket bearers were Howard Lyons, Homer Lyons, Kenneth Goswick, Jim Lyons, John Baze, and Bill Lyons.

Those serving as honorary bearers were: Martin Johnson, Clyde Angel, and Harry Crummitt.

Interment was made in the Fairview-Rider Cemetery near Rich Hill under the direction of Underwood-Steinbeck Funeral Home, Rich Hill, Mo.
