Richard Taylor Alves, Sr.

Richard Taylor Alves, Sr., 78, of Monroe, LA, died Thursday, July 20, 2006. Born December 28, 1927, in San Antonio, TX, to Louise Elizabeth Taylor Alves and George Wayne Alves, he was a member of Diamondhead Community Church in Diamondhead, MS, and a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Aggie band and the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. He was a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy, a Korean War veteran and also served in the Navy Reserves and the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he served in search and rescue. His hobbies included singing, directing musicals and boating.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Louise Alves Bonnette and husband K. Stephen of San Antonio; one step-daughter, Natalie Eileen Shirley and husband Steven of Bangkok, Thailand; one stepson, Mac Hughes and wife Jacque of Keller, TX; two granddaughters, Beth Bonnette of New York, N. Y. and Stephanie Bonnette Arnold of San Antonio; and three step-granddaughters, Caroline and Holly Hughes and Lauren Shirley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn Alves; one son, Richard Taylor Alves Jr.; and one brother, Robert Alves.

Grave-side services were held Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m. at Pinewood Memorial Park with Rev. L. H. McCollough officiating. Jones Funeral Home of Crossett was in charge of arrangements.
