1st wife, Mrs. Hannah Moore, married on October 22, 1888.
The Morning Telegram Thursday, May 14, 1891. - obituary.
DIED - in South Ellenburgh, May 11th, 1891, after a brief illness, Mrs. Hannah Moore, wife of Thomas Arnold. Her remains were taken to Cadyville Tuesday for interment.

2nd wife, Charlotte Mahala French, a native of Onondaga County, New York, had been married twice prior to her marriage to Thomas E. Arnold on January 20, 1892.
When Charlotte's mother passed away in 1891 in Syracuse, NY, the speculation of her mother being 105 years old made newspaper headlines and was published in many communities. The life sketch of Theodora French did not mention her daughter Charlotte as being married in 1891. Charlotte was previously married to John H. Haskell residing in the Syracuse, NY area having a son, Roswell Smith Haskell, the marriage failed and Charlotte remarried Edward Robinson, removed to Franklin County and later to Clinton County, and in that union had a daughter, Julia Ella Robinson. Edward Robinson either had died or was missing.
On Jan. 20, 1892, Charlotte remarried Thomas E. Arnold.
She had gone to Syracuse, NY in 1906 to attend the funeral of her brother, Charles H. French, also, attended by her other brother, Henry French, and his children.
Charlotte died in 1920 and was buried at Riverside cemetery in Ellenburg.
New York, U.S., Death Index, 1852-1956 for Charlott Arnold - 1920, Apr. 20 Ellenburg #27341.

3rd wife was his father's 2nd wife or his stepmother, Mary E. Dickinson, as she was 8 years his senior. A marriage record indicates their former spouse died and they have been married twice before as this will be their 3rd marriage each. Believed to have married for convenience due to their age and to keep money and property within the family. Thomas's father Edwin Arnold married Mary E. Dickerson on 22 Feb 1894. Ellenburgh records show she was the former Mary E. Covey (Mrs. Aaron Covey).
Therefore, Mary (nee Dickenson) was married to Aaron Covey, then Edwin Arnold, and finally Thomas Arnold. Thomas was married to Hannah Moore, then Mrs. Charlotte (nee French) Robinson and next was his stepmother Mary E. (nee Dickenson) Covey - Arnold.

There is no evidence to support that Lucy M. (Arnold) Covey, born on 18 Mar. 1889 in
Marion, Waupaca County, Wisconsin is Thomas E. Arnold's biological daughter since he was married to Hannah Moore on Oct. 22, 1888, until her death on May 11, 1891.
Mrs. Elizabeth (nee Bessey) Stackpole had become a widow in 1888 and her daughter Mary is listed below as the 4th wife of Thomas E. Arnold. The question is where, when, and how did Thomas E. Arnold and Mrs. Elizabeth Stackpole meet? It is speculated or assumed that they had an affair that led to the conception and illegitimate birth of Lucy M. Arnold.
Elizabeth (nee Bessey) Stackpole remarried Abraham L. Collins on Sept. 30, 1888.
The 1905 Wisconsin census in Edgar, Marathon, Wisc. has Lucy Collins born about 1889 listed as the daughter of Abraham L . & Elizabeth Collins. The 1905 New York census in Ellenburg, Clinton, NY has Lucy M. Arnold born about 1889 as the step-granddaughter of Mary E (Dickenson) Arnold (she is Head of Household), which is true since Mary is Thomas E. Arnold's stepmother. Also, in Ellenburg, Thomas is with his wife, Charlotte, and step-grandson, George Magee. The 1892 NY and 1900 U.S. will list Thomas & Charlotte Arnold, and her daughter Julia Robinson since Charlotte was previously married to Edward Robinson.
The conclusion without any definite proof is that Lucy M. Arnold has been accepted as being the illegitimate daughter of Thomas E. Arnold. While Elizabeth's husband was deceased and prior to her marriage to Abraham Collins that Thomas Arnold was unfaithful and committed adultery. Life goes on and all has been forgiven and forgotten.

A 4th wife, NYS Marriage Index Thomas Arnold to Mary (nee Stackpole) Stein on 7 Oct 1931 Ellenburg. Mary was previously married to Ernest Stein (died 1930) of Edgar, Wis., and had several children. Considering that Mary is the daughter of Paul F. & Elizabeth (Bessey) Stackpole and that Lucy M. Arnold is the supposed illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth and Thomas, he had married his daughter's half-sister.
- obituary does not indicate that Thomas E. Arnold has any biological children, only step-children. -
