Kenneth M. STAMP, age 81, of Bronson, Mich., died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at the Branch County Community Health Center.
He was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Three Rivers, a son of Marshall and Rose (MYERS) STAMP. He joined the Army in 1943 during World War II and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, earning the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze battle star.
On July 22, 1950, Ken married Wanda RIGG in Fremont, Ind.
He was a lifelong carpenter and was a self-employed subcontractor for 50 years for several area builders, specializing in finish carpentry. He had talented hands and was able to build almost anything out of wood. Even after his retirement, his major hobby was building thing for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Ken was a very active life member of the VFW Post 5003 in Bronson, an active dual member of the American Legion Posts in Bronson and Orland, Ind. and a member of the Moose Lodge #677 in Coldwater.
Surviving are; his wife, Wanda; daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Daniel LOOSENORT of Hudsonville and Diane and Marvin HAYNES of Coldwater; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Marsha STAMP of Bronson; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert STAMP of Kalamazoo; his sister, Marsha GARDNER of Sharon, Tenn.; his two faithful dogs, Foxy and Gidget and his fishing buddy, Harley BERCAW.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary MOONEY, his brother, Terry STAMP; his father and step-mother, Marshall and Rose STAMP and his mother and step-father, Rosie and Don SHULTERS and another close fishing buddy, Ed GUMP.
Visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. Sunday until the time of service at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Dr. Daniel LOOSENORT officiating. Interment will follow in Bronson Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the Bronson and Orland Posts of the American Legion and the Bronson VFW.
