Please Note: James’ obituary, which I have transcribed below, states that he married Bonnie Dunlap Jan. 6, 1914, at Lockport, Illinois. This cannot be correct, as James would only have been five-years-old at that time.

I found a marriage record for James Orville Bloomer to Birtie Virginia Kyle on October 7, 1928, in Washington County, Ohio. James and Bertie were still together in the 1940 Census for Lubeck, Wood County, West Virginia, and she was still listed as his wife in an illustrated book entitled, “World War II Young America Patriots 1941-1945, West Virginia, shown in ancestry.com. Bertie Virginia Bloomer was remarried to Jack Layman Poe in 1947 in Wood County, West Virginia. The month and day of marriage are not given in the marriage record found in ancestry.com, but Bertie V. Poe died August 6, 1947.

James O. Bloomer, 68, of 959 S. Webster was dead on arrival at Ottumwa Hospital at 10:25 a.m. Feb. 1.

He was born July 2, 1909, in Parkersburg, W. Va., to Mr. and Mrs. Porter Bloomer, lived in Illinois many years prior to moving to Ottumwa eight months ago, was a Navy World War II veteran and was a retired employee of an automotive parts company. He married Bonnie Dunlap Jan. 6, 1914 [sic], at Lockport, Ill.

Survivors: his wife; daughters, Yvonne Giles of Ottumwa and Mary Ross Ogaz of Yuma, Ariz.; a son, Dan Dunlap of Santtee, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a brother, William, and sisters Bertha Harris, Hazel Cross, Nora Moore and Delma Kaufman, all of Parkersburg, W. Va.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Ernie Hudson of First Church of God officiating. Burial: Shaul Cemetery with American Legion military services.

Pallbearers: members of the American Legion.
