Violet “Aunt Vi” of Washington, D.C. suffered a stroke and passed away this Christmastime with her friends by her side in the hospital. She was born in Peking, China, daughter of John and Irene Moorhouse, on Jan. 26,1927 and died Dec. 7 to be with our blessed lord Jesus. Her faith and grace were always evident to her family, friends and to her charities especially at Christmas.

She loved Washington, D.C. as a capitol city which was so much like the Peking, China of her youth, a place of legations, embassies, governments, museums, diplomats, history and military barracks. Her family left China and moved to Coronado in 1940 after living under Japanese occupation for over two years, due to World War II in China, Europe and Africa.

She graduated from Coronado High School in 1945. She worked at the Coronado Public Library during the war and while attending San Diego State University and obtained her master's in library science at the University of California at Berkeley. She moved to New York City in 1958 as a librarian at the New York City Library, then on to Washington, D.C. in 1968 at the Library of Congress and to the Government Printing Office for over 35 years until her retirement.

She is survived by her brother John and his wife Carolyn; their five children; her nieces and nephews; Cathy and husband John; Cindy and husband Eric; John; Bill; Jim and wife Dru; their seven grandchildren, Josh, Matt and wife Faye, Sarah, David, Danny, Micah, Gabriel; and cousins worldwide. At a private family service after Christmas, she was laid to rest with her mother and father at Greenwood Memorial Park.
