He was married on July 13, 1937, in Estherville, Iowa, to Eileen Ardyce Noyes, who preceded him in death on August 12, 1986. On August 27, 1988, he was married in El Dorado Springs, Missouri, to Sharon Houk, who survives at the home. James was a farmer in Minnesota for several years and also worked in an aircraft factory in San Diego, California. He was also a carpenter for 30 years. James was known for his faithfulness in church throughout his adult lifetime, receiving Christ as his Lord and Savior and serving as Deacon at several churches. He enjoyed singing hymns and attending soul winning groups to reach the lost for Jesus. He also delivered Meals on Wheels. His favorite past times were gardening and sharing the produce with friends and relatives. He raised many flowers and provided bouquets for church services. He enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren with board games and riding his tandem bicycle.
He is also survived by two daughters: Mary Lou Sanders (husband Bud) of Hastings, OK; Joanne Ardyce Spotten of Mesa, AZ; one son: Lawrence Frank Ripley of Cedar Springs, MO; four step-children: Jerry Dysart of Fayette, MO; Cary Dysart (wife Betsy) of Ottawa, KS; Susan Thorne of Louisville, KY; and Sandy Kretzer (husband Steve) of Jefferson City, MO; a sister: Elizabeth Lawrence (husband Robert) of Hemphill, TX; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister: Alice, a brother: Richard and one grandson: Dale Crosthwait.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors - Jefferson City Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors - Jefferson City Chapel, with Rev. Randy Dignan officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery in El Dorado Springs, Missouri.
