He was a veteran of the United States Army who served in Vietnam and Cambodia. He was a decorated combat veteran and was awarded three Purple Hearts. On Sept. 6, 1967, he voluntarily entered the Army and completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., and was deployed to Germany for training as a welder and mechanic. With six months left in the service, he was deployed to Vietnam on Feb. 28, 1970. He was assigned to fire base Fort Defiance in Vietnam where he served as tank commander with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment/Blackhorse Regiment. It was during this service that he met his loyal battle buddy and tank driver, Alfredo. In May 1970, Bob and Alfredo participated in the invasion of Cambodia. Bob and Alfredo remained loyal and close friends until Bob's passing. Very few people had bigger hearts than Bobby - a dedicated husband and father, Bobby was loved by all who knew him - possibly an understatement.
