Around 1930 the family moved to Los Angeles. Around this time, Bill constructed his own home-made ham radio with power supply. It was so powerful that the local broadcasting authorities told him to shut it down because of interference. In the 1940s, he worked as an electrical engineer. On May 28, 1955 Bill married May Lusher (1920-1994). They never had children.
Philosophy was also a fascination for Bill. When working at SoCal Edison, he wanted to work graveyard shifts in the monitoring rooms all alone so he could read philosophy books in the middle of the night undisturbed. Even in his old age he continued to study. Even when he was 90 years old and blind, he wanted to get a master’s degree in philosophy at a local college in Los Angeles. His wife May would read the text book to him and he would answer back so she could write down the notes for his professor for credit.
Great-Uncle Bill never finished his master’s degree. He and May died just days apart from each other after married for 39 years. He died on March 4, 1994 at age 91. Bill and May are buried together at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello, Ca.
