Patrick was born in Ridgetown, Kent Co., Ontario; the only son of William Patrick Clancey Jr. (1840-1906) and Johanna Kinna (1850-1941). He immigrated to Linwood, Fraser Twp., Bay Co., Michigan in the U.S. with his family in April 1879 at the age of 6. He was working in a lumber mill in the U.P. when he met and married Ellen Mary Ryan on 14 April, 1903 at Holy Rosary R.C. Church in Grand Marais. He fathered 8 children:William Michael(1904); Patrick Joseph(1905-1908); Ellen(1908-1982); James Gordon(1910-1998);Robert Maurice(1911-1990); Gertrude Mary(1912-2007); Agnes Patricia(1915-2010); Mary Helene(1916-1981). He was naturalized in 1937 at age 64. He and Ellen lived variously in: Grand Marais, Burt Twp., Alger Co; Raber, Chippewa Co.; Big Bay, Powell Twp.;Marquette Co.; and Marquette, Marquette Co.
