Margaret J. Warren married widower Charles M. Allen of Fall River, MA on May 27, 1869 at Westford, MA. They had a son, Ralph Bryant. Mr. Allen died in 1872.
After Mr. Allen's death, Margaret and the three children moved to Kansas, settling in Topeka, the town her brother, Daniel H. Horne, helped found in 1854. She ran a boarding house while in Topeka. The family later moved to Pottawatomie County, first in Havensville and later Garrison, where she and her daughter ran the Railroad Hotel.
News Item: “Garrison.—Ralph Allen came up from Topeka, Wednesday to eat turkey and spend Thanksgiving with his mother and sister, Mrs. M. J. Allen and Miss Emily of the Garrison hotel. Mr. J. B. Horn, a brother of Mrs. Allen, who is on his way from Massachusetts to California stopped off to spend Thanksgiving and visit a short time.”

Clay Center to Kansas City: Margaret, with daughter Emily, had moved west to Clay Center in Clay County by 1900, where she operated a boarding house on Dexter street. In 1902 they moved to Kansas City, Missouri, the home of son, Ralph.
Note: Her daughter was still using the name Emily F. Warren while in Topeka. Later she went by Emily W. Allen (aka Emma). She worked as a telegraph operator in Kansas City, Mo. where she continued to board after the passing of her mother and half-brother, Ralph.
