Caryn died at her residence in Charlottesville, Virginia, on the evening of March 12, 2015. After months of battling cancer she peacefully passed on to the immediate presence of God.Caryn was born on September 12, 1960, in Dallas, Texas, to Edbert and Eleanor Schutze. She was the fifth of their eight children. After the death of her father, Caryn's mother remarried Don Wetzel which created a combined family of twelve children under the care of Don and Eleanor. Caryn graduated from Bishop Lynch high school where she was active as a cheerleader and class officer. She attended St. Louis University as a freshman and thereafter attended the Univerity of Texas at Austin where she studied general home economics. Caryn married Greg Burnett of Corpus Christi, a fellow student at UT-Austin, and together they had four children. In the course of her life, Caryn was alive in her faith in Christ, influencing many towards a love for the Savior. A devoted wife and mother, she was a cheerful friend and favorite companion to many. The path of her life included being employed as a social worker in Travis County, Texas as well as a variety of ministry endeavors. Among these were involvement in short term missions with Youth With a Mission out of Tyler, Texas in 1991-92. She and her husband were also catalytic in leading a whole-city evangelization and prayer effort in Yuba City/Marysville, California while working with Harvest Evangelism in 1995. Caryn also was a participant in helping to pioneer a 24 hour prayer effort in the Charlotte, North Carolina area which was literally sustained nonstop from January of 2006 through June of 2009; this effort included in its focus prayer that the gospel of Christ would advance with love and power, and for an increase of Christlikeness in His Body, the church.She is survived by her husband, Greg; children, Matthew, Alec, Ellen, and David; parents, Eleanor and Don Wetzel; brothers and sisters, Debbie and Frank Shannon, Valerie and Tom McCrary, Bob Schutze, Donna and David Wildman; Sister, Michelle Marie (Diane Schutze), Lisa Donovan, Scott and Sharon Wetzel, Cherilyn Schutze, Warren Wetzel, Sharon and Dennis Gibney, Stuart and Shelly Schutze, and over 50 nieces and nephews. There will be a public memorial service on Friday, March 27, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church in Charlottesville to remember her life and express our thankfulness to God for her.
