Antoinette Guerard Rhett was the daughter of Arthur Rose Guerard, M.D. and Eugenie Engels. She was the 3x great granddaughter of Hugh Rose, 15th Baron Kilravock of Scotland, and 2x great granddaughter of Arthur Gordon Rose, president of the Bank of Charleston, 1850-1856. She attended Converse College and married Arthur Rose Rhett on Dec. 2, 1903 at her family's home in Flat Rock, NC. She was an artist specializing in etchings during the "Charleston Renaissance" period in the 1920's-1930's and her work has been exhibited in various museums in Charleston and the South. Her nickname was "Duchess" and younger family members called her "Aunt Netta".
