Adelbert E. Canfield was born on 23 July 1863 in Ionia County, MI to Ethel Bench Canfield and Harriet C. Grandy.
His mother died when he was but four years old. In 1880, he came with his family to Atchison County KS, living in Lancaster KS until 1894. When he was eighteen he was thrown from a horse and suffered from the accident ever since. He died 26 May 1911 in Horton, Brown Co, KS and is buried in the Holton Cemetery.
