A.C. "Pistol" Abbott, 74, of Sheridan died Monday, July 16, 2001. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the WYO Theater with Pastor Tony Forman officiating. Mr. Abbott was born March 6, 1927, in Kane to Charles E. "Tuffy" and Jenny Sproul Abbott. He grew up on ranches, spending most of his youth at the Dry Head Ranch in Montana's Pryor Mountains and along the Big Horn Canyon. He left home at age 13 to work for the Tschirgi family on the Little Horn Ranch, where he went from night horse wrangler to cow foreman. He joined the paratroopers at age 16 with his mother's permission when World War II started. He was discharged because he was color-blind. He returned home and took private lessons to learn to fly. He broke horses, ranched, hunted and fished. He enjoyed reading and bird-watching in later years. He was preceded in death by one son, Chuck. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Susan, and a son, Lance C. "Little Pistol" Abbott, both of Sheridan; two daughters, Laureen Kay Dozier of Phoenix and Kathy Lynn "Kate" Taylor of Sheridan; two stepsons, Travis E. Miller of Galeton, Colo., and Coulter D. Miller of Woodland Park, Colo.; one sister, Jean Slane of Casper; and three grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established at Sheridan State Bank to help defray funeral expenses. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home."
