99, of Jerome passed away Friday, May 24, 2002 at Sunbridge Care Center in Twin Falls. Bessie was born Jan. 4, 1903 in Barron County, Ky. to Thomas Jefferson and Myrtle Canady Graven. She moved to Oklahoma when she was three. Later she moved to Missouri where she met and married Joseph H. Rose. Five children were born during their marriage of over 25 years The family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1936. They were later divorced. She married Loran B. Jennings in 1940. They spent most of their married years in Nampa. Loran died in 1966. In 1968, Bessie married D.C. "Dutch" Adams. They lived in Sequim, Wash. Dutch died in 1971 and Bessie returned to Idaho to be near her children. Bessie worked at Farragut Naval Station during World War II. After moving to Nampa, she worked for the Simplot Processing plant and during the summers in the early 60s she cooked for Jack Simplot and his family at their summer lodge in McCall. Bessie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Jerome; Past Matron of Jerome Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and Past Royal Matron of Garnet Court, Order of the Amaranth in Gooding. She was a former member and Past President of Jerome Civic Club and a former member of Iras Temple, Daughters of the Nile in Boise. On her last trip to Kentucky in 1994, Bessie was appointed Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky. This honor was bestowed on her for being Kentucky's Ambassador of good will and fellowship. Bessie is survived by three daughters, Maxine Bill Hicks of Burley, Jeanne Sund of Twin Falls and June Smith of Nampa and one son, Joe Dorothy Rose of Jerome, 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Myrtle Allen, one grandson and two granddaughters, her husbands, two brothers and four sisters. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Joe Waters, the staffs of Woodstone and Sunbridge Care Centers and a special thank you to Pansy Vinyard for her faithful visits to our mother and grandmother. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Jerome, Idaho with Rev. Robert Stebe officiating. At Bessie's request, there will be no visitation and cremation is under the direction of Demaray's Funeral Chapel. A private interment will be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Jerome Public Library, 100 E. First Ave., Jerome, ID 83338 or Jerome Chapter of Eastern Star, PO Box 156, Jerome, ID 83338.
