My father retired and worked part time with me until his first heart attack and developed diabetes with it. His health got worse my mother could not keep up the house and my dad alone so they moved to Roseburg to be with 2 of my sisters the oldest lived with them and the third born Linda is a nurse and took care of Dad until his death in 2003 Dads latest bout with getting sick he decided to give up and not go to the hospital so he lost his battle on Sept 21, 2003 his request was to have a 21 gun salute and a bagpiper play amazing grace my father in law a Lt Col. in the Airforce Retired officiated his funeral they became dear friends over the years. the navy and vfw were represented as well, it was the last thing I could do for him. His life was over but he left a legacy behind 4 daughters 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter I would say he left alot of himself with us. In his service to the Navy he was in the Phillipines on Samar Isl. and Luzon as a gunner on the Higgins boats spraying the beaches which was known as a suicide job alot of them did not come home. Dad I am proud of you and the life you lead even if you had alot of hard times you made it through and we are better for knowing you, who does not make alot of mistakes raising a family. YOU ARE LOVED
