Shortly after the family of Charles and Sarah (Hughes) Wilkinson arrived at the pioneer encampment the summer of 1856, Sarah Jane and her sister Mary died. They were buried in the same grave together. Her parents and brother went on to Utah with the Martin Handcart Co.
