John married three times.
His first wife was Ethel Margaret Schaech. They married about 1938 and had one daughter. The couple divorced and John moved to N.Y. City, NY (1940 Census) with his brother Wallace.

His 2nd wife was Marie Eleanor Jecelin.

He is survived by his 3rd wife, the former Pearl J. Thompson; siblings Ruth Poteet, Cora Pensek, Elsie Yeaekle, Roberta Hacker, Genevieve Sieser and Bernard DeVaux and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
